In addition to the private amenities that await Atara residents exclusively, Desert Color offers a wide array of amenities, activities, shops, and restaurants that are reciprocally granted to Atara residents, as well. Each month we like to give you a sampling of what’s out there or what’s coming. Here are two things you can definitely look forward to.
Megaplex At Desert Color
It’s coming soon, and it’s going to be impressive: movies, bowling, dining, arcade games, private events and more. And it’s all coming to a premier location in Desert Color, just an easy bike ride away for Atara residents and guests. Presented by the Larry H. Miller Group in partnership with Woodbury Corporation, project development of Megaplex Entertainment at Desert Color is already underway with specific construction details coming soon.

Megaplex promises to be a strong draw for families and individuals alike—and a year-round complex for Atara residents. After all, one can only hike, bike, jog, climb, jump, ride, rock, roll, for so long right? At some point you need a little “sedentary recreation,” if only for recovery purposes. Well, with Megaplex, you’re in luck. “Megaplex is a best-in-class cinema and entertainment operator and will be a magnet of activity for Desert Color,” says Danny Woodbury, SVP Woodbury Corporation. “The partners are committed to making this development a regional gathering space that offers the best in entertainment, dining and shopping.”
Kevin Costner Film Studio
So, it’s not every day that a Hollywood icon of acting, directing, and producing decides to open up shop in your hometown. Well, that’s exactly the welcomed surprise that Desert Color residents are experiencing right now. And by extension, that applies to Atara residents, as well. Kevin Costner is opening a film studio, Territory Studios, in St. George!
Not only that, but Utah Tech University is opening another campus on 180 acres in Desert Color, and a new tech hub is expected to input $3.24 billion into the local economy annually. Best of all, each one is in the planning and construction phase.
Those announcements were announced this February, as St. George Mayor Michele Randall delivered the annual State of the City address to discuss growth, water, and quality of life in southern Utah.
Lights, Camera, Action!
Situated near the St. George Regional Airport, the Costner film studio will encompass a 500-acre industrial complex. The facility is designed to house two sound studios, a production warehouse and office space. There will also be a “Costner-themed” restaurant. The initiative has been hailed as a “massive addition to the performing arts industry” in St. George by real estate professional Macrae Heppler.
On a side note, this film studio venture marks another chapter in Costner’s relationship with Utah, having previously filmed parts of the hit show “Yellowstone” in Park City at Utah Film Studios, as well as other parts of Utah.
